have no idea why it took me so long to try and actually read it I ended up caving and getting the audiobook I think I ve been way too busy and actually reading has been about 20 on my priorities list I digress I am slightly disappointed this wasn t a reverse harem When the five hot Atlantean guys, who also happen to be the most popular guys of the school, were introduced I was hoping for an RH I ended up loving this story regardless of it being a monogamous love story at least for now There were so many little bits about how supes are a lotcasual about sex and polygamy, so I am slightly disappointed there wasn tthan Maddison and Asher However, I loved them together so much They were extremely adorable and I loved what their relationship became The setting of the school was magical and amazing I loved that supernaturals went to school for the magical education later in life I loved Maddison s excitement about the supernatural world and getting to learn alongside her The addition of the Atlanteans was awesome I loved the extra mythology this brought in.I can t believe the next book isn t out yet, I need it Maddison is plucked off the streets and carted off to Europe to the Supernatural Academy Evidently, she s been putting off bursts of power of an unknown kind and they finally caught up to her Luckily, the school is pretty cool and beats living on the streets Maddison learns all about the supernatural races, including Atlanteans, represented by 5 hunky popular guys, but she is still unsure what type of supernatural she is Asher is the leader of the Atlanteans and power, she attracts the attention of an outside group and must rely on Asher and his friends to keep her safe All in all, I liked it I thought including Atlanteans in the supernatural races was a fun twist on the usual suspects witches, shapeshifters, and vampires Maddison is in line with other FMCs that Jaymin Eve has written she s likable and quirky, she doesn t take crap from anyone which often gets her in trouble, and she is extremely loyal once she makes a friend I ll be looking for the next installment in the series, I think it will be fun Maddison James Is About To Discover Some Truths About The WorldFirstly Supernaturals Exist WTF Secondly She Is One, Even Though No One Seems To Know Exactly What Kind Double WTFThirdly She S About To Go Back To School Well, Things Just Got A Little InterestingThe Supernatural Academy Is Where Shifters, Vampires, Magic Users, And Fey Are Educated Where They Are Taught About Their Abilities, And How To Function In The Human World Maddison Already execution The writing felt a tad choppy and disjointed at times and it didn t flow as organically as I would have liked There were a few parts that I skimmed just to get back to somethingengaging and captivating It just felt like something was slightly missing, like just barely out of reach Whatever that is would have catapulted this book to a greater level 3.5 Stars This book was hard for me would have catapulted this book to a greater level After reading the Supernatural Prison series book 1 Dragon Marked and the Curse of the Gods series book 1 Trickery and loving both, I was super excited to see this book come out I dropped everything and bought it when it released Maybe my expectations were too high I don t know It just wasn t everything that I hoped for That being said, this is a very promising lead in to the new series I thought the book was interesting and creative and as I mentioned before, I really, really love the characters main and secondary I will still recommend Supernatural Academy Year One to my urban fantasy loving friends and I look forward to book two andyear of the purpleAlso, for those who hate cliffhangers, this bookdoesresolve the major conflict from the story so it reads as complete, though there will clearly be a continuation of the story as there isyet to come with everything that has been happening You don t need to wait for the next book to come out before starting this one I would suggest grabbing it up now and meeting these awesome characters and exploring their world at the academy.Oh and final thought Shout out to whoever designed this cover It s gorgeous and totally fits the book I really enjoyed reading this book, i didn t want it it end tho I liked the mc personality, she was fun, says what she s thinking at the moment, blunt and kind I liked the atlantea guys, especially Asher ofc i know it s not a RH but i wanted it to be I thought Kate would befeisty, bitchy and nasty, she didn t show up and cause so much chaos as i thought she would I asume she will appear in the next book I love that this in in the same world as the Supernatural Prison series I was unsure at first, but it is, which is really fun, because we saw Louis I liked the academy a lot, and that Maddi, the MC, had friends that were female, aside from the guys I do feel like I have less of a sense of each of them though, in part due to the time skips present I liked Maddi, and loved her hair pink is my favorite color so having her as the MC worked well for me It was cool to have a magic user MC as op I love that this in in the same world as well for me It was cool to have a magic user MC as opposed to a shifter like Jessa, the MC of the Supernatural Prison series The plot being based around Atlantis is very interesting, and I m excited to learnI wish there wasdetail about her classes and learning to use her powers later on Good first book of a new series 4 stars 3,5 starsLike The character are not teens All of them are 21 The world is well built. It s not a RH and i liked the connection with the other guys non sexual Not so much The story is predictable. The h is the usual clueless girl, with terrible childhood and mommy and daddy issues sometimes she comes out a little to bitchy has a defense mechanism Their relation is a bit forced DNF, this starts with a cliche kid knapping as a plot device to get the heroine where she s supposed to go Then it gets evencliche with the heroine just getting over being kid knapped and accepting it all in under an hour. This is set in the Supernatural Prison world and but it is not at all up to par with that series There is a lack of character building and worldbuilding throughout This is a sad disappointment. 3.5 stars Don t have partially strong feelings about this one way or another It was quite middle of the road My first impressions were Jaymin you re such a bitch for not making this RH when you introduce 5 guys at the same time who give me Abcurse Deja Vu it s pretty cruel to then make it a normal MF romance But once I realised this is branch of the supernatural prison series then it makes muchsense for this to be in the same vein There s some character crossovers which was cool and 3.5 stars Don t have partially strong feelings about this one way or another It was quite middle of the road My first impressions were Jaymin you re such a bitch for not making this RH academy where she finds somewhere to belong for the first time in her life yada yada rises form the ashes of an abusive background etc ec orphanunidentified powers emerging blah blah fill in the blanks because you ve read this before She meets her lifelong friends within the first 5 minutes Drawn to the 5 most beautiful powerful men in those same five minutes while also catching the attention of all the school bitchesI could not do a review without that gif read it to find out why She s a snowflake with an attitudeShe s likeable but also..notPowerful but also not Romance but also not So I m finding this hard to review as you can tellBut it wasn t all bad It was entertaining without knocking my socks off There was some unusual supes and that at least something It was lengthy so not rushed which was nice If you like Jaymin s other series then I d take the odds that you will like this too Am I exited for the next Originally posted at My Rating 3 and a half starsAs always, with this author, I adore the world building She does a fantastic job at making this magical universe a realistic and believable one My one problem with everything is the overall pacing, which I ll elaborate on later in this review.Maggi has had a crappy life so far at 22 years old and it just got so much weirder I like how sassy and stubborn she is She doesn t accept everything right away but she doesn t turn into a hysterical Originally posted at My Rating 3 and a half starsAs always, with this author, I adore the world building She does a fantastic job at making this magical universe a much weirder I like how sassy and stubborn she is She doesn t accept everything right away but she doesn t turn into a hysterical mess either Given time she adapts quite well to her new life Her relationship with Asher takes a long while to start but after that things take a turn with lots of impossible problems with no solutions.Asher and all his friends seemed like awesome guys I don t understand why they re so standoffish to most everyone in the school except the new girl and her friends, but I can let that slide He seems to like and be intrigued by Maggi just as much as she is by him They seem like a great couple.I ve been unofficially taking a break from YA for a few months I ve been having the worst luck when it comes to picking out books in the YA section So I liked how this book took something that would usually be in the 15 17 age bracket and put it into a new adult adult form I can t say this enough, the world building is amazing The map at the beginning of the book was awesome. The only problem I had with this book was the pacing of the story The first half was way too slow It took over 18 chapters for Maggi and Asher to have a full conversation The second half felt rushed for no apparent reason because some obscure things started connecting the dots out of thin air and then it ended If there was one thing this author would benefit in improving in future books it would be developing streamlined pacing for a book series. The end wasn t what I was expecting it to be I was on the edge of my seat waiting for a lot of things to possibly happen but what actually happened wasn t it I m interested in what happens next and maybe even getting a series of spin off books for Asher s group of supernaturals. My Favorite QuotesThis year there would be light, because I d had my damned share of darkness, Music moves everyone in different ways and it s magic even humans can access Sorry, I sometimes talk without thinking It s a problem I m not working on
